My son LOVES to color and paint but those dang paints get expensive. Especially with a 3 year old who doesn’t quite get that less is more! He likes to load his paint brush (or hands!) up! I know there are a million recipes out there but I am fond of this one because it only requires 3 ingredients.
My kids love it because it is thick and stick to their brush better. While it doesn’t taste very good it is completely safe if they happen to get a little in their mouth. Safety is importnant to me which is why I prefer homemade and all matural products. Most of us have all of the ingredients in the kitchen already so this is super fast and easy. Finger paint you make yourself is also a lot cheaper!
Taste Safe Finger Paint
- 1 Cup of Water
- 1 Cup of All Purpose Flour
- Food Coloring
- Mix the flour and water in a bowl until smooth and free of lumps
- Pour your mixture into jars (baby food jars are awesome!)
- Add a squeeze of food coloring to each jar and stir
- Paint away and enjoy!
The mixture tends to thicken in a few days so make small batches and use within 2-3 days. I love being able to supply my kids with craft materials quickly without spending a ton of money. These homemade recipes are great for me because I know exactly what is in them as well. I know if my child puts some of this homemade finger paint in their mouth they will be ok because it is just colored flour paste!
