- 1 tablespoon grated beeswax or beeswax pastilles
- 1 tablespoon virgin coconut oil
- A dash of organic raw honey
- 2 vitamin e capsules
- Essential oil (optional)
- Mica powder or food coloring for color (optional)
In a double boiler, melt down the beeswax, adding in the coconut oil and honey when the beeswax is half melted. After it’s all blended together well, stir in the contents of 2 vitamin E capsules. Now you can add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil and your color if you like. Pour into container or a tube and let cool.
Coconut oil will not coat and smother your skin like petroleum based products, and moisturizes deep down. Its fatty acids hold onto moisture, and can help reinforce the skins lipid (fat) layer, which promoted hydration. It leaves your lips nice and smooth for hours.
Honey is a natural humectant, which means it attracts and holds onto water molecules. Full of antioxidants, vitamin E can neutralize the effect of free radicals that damage healthy skin cells and lead to dryness.I like to steer clear of fragrances when it comes to my lip balm, but if you like you can add in a few drops of your favorite scent.
You can also add a touch of shea butter for added moisture if your lips tend to be extra dry or cracked. Play around with the scent added and make it festive for any occassion.
